B&Q ditches Asda partnership

B&Q will end its partnership with Asda after just three years.

Instead, the DIY retailer is set to focus on launching its own smaller stores, as reported by Retail Gazette.

B&Q will close its eight concessions in Asda stores from March 11, with 57 staff expected to be affected and offered alternative employment at nearby B&Q stores.

The two brands launched their partnership in 2020 with four shop-in-shops.

But now B&Q is looking to open up more smaller, local stores. B&Q opened its first two convenience-store Local formats on January 27 in London suburbs.

Punchline said: "Opening smaller town centre stores is working well for Dobbies, with Little Dobbies set to open on Cheltenham Promenade in the next few weeks. Could we see B&Q on the high street soon too?"
