University applies for more Debenhams changes

University of Gloucestershire has applied to Gloucester City Council for further changes to the Debenhams building.

The former department store is currently being transformed into the university's new City Campus.

During the works, on-site discoveries have forced changes to the original planning submission.

In this latest revision, the university is applying to the council for changes to the elevations of the building.

Amendments to the proposed ground floor plan include:

• Changes to the main entrance on King's Square following the demolition of the previous external canopy

• A ramped entrance in the entrance lobby to coordinate between proposed finished floor level and the external ground level at King's Square

• Minor changes to the layout of the university library, practical teaching space and the Gloucester city library

A new proposed roof plan has been submitted to capture the following changes:

• Mechanical plant equipment has been developed and coordinated

• Smoke vent stack has been increased in height to satisfy the requirement of building regulations

• Minor changes to the layout and positioning of risers

The first phase of the City Campus is set to open to students in the autumn. By the end of construction, it's hoped the new campus will attract 4,000 students to the city.
