Review: Driving Miss Daisy to the Barn Theatre in Cirencester

Driving Miss Daisy brings elegance, and historical relevance to a simply classic stage.

Based on a true story of conflicting backgrounds and personalities colliding and forming an unlikely friendship during a time of political strife.

A proud yet humble 72-year-old woman, Miss Daisy (Susan Tracy) is reluctant to accept the chauffeur offered by her successful son Boolie Werthan (John Sackville). Reluctant to be a burden, to lose her independence, and to accept help. She begrudgingly allows Hoke Coleburn (Mensah Bediako) into her car, her pantry, and her life, kindling a lasting friendship.

The cast have impressive resumes and well-established expertise in their careers. They offered insight into another way of life, deeply rooted in our history, and the importance of friendship.

At some point, we will all be required to rely on the kindness of others; whether borrowing a cup of sugar from a neighbour or care in later years. Simple acts of kindness are often remembered and paid forwards, yet prejudices and suspicion have been deeply rooted for hundreds of years and remain so today.
