Top five things to do in Gloucestershire this weekend

Football might not be so high on the agenda this weekend, but there's still a whole host of other things to do around the county this Saturday and Sunday.

1# Browse an exhibition in the Cotswolds of tree studies and landscapes

The Arborealists grew out of the exhibition 'Under the Greenwood: Picturing the British Tree from Constable to Kurt Jackson' which was held in the St Barbe Museum and Art Gallery, Lymington in 2013.

This significant show was staged in two parts, the first focussing on artists from the past, the second focussing on the contemporary.

This exhibition, 'The Arborealists and Other Painters' features 21 members of the group plus a further seven top artists introduced to the group by the John Davies Gallery in Moreton-in-Marsh.

Most artists are showing more than one work each, resulting in a magnificent and diverse collection well in excess of 75 works celebrating the tree in the British landscape.

Paintings range in size from small and below £1,000 to very large and in excess of £20,000.

Some of the artists will be present at a private view on Saturday, July 7, from 11am-5pm and Sunday, July 8, from 11am-3pm, to which everyone is welcome. Fizz and Canapes from 12noon-2.30pm

2# Watch the exhilarating displays at The Royal International Air Tattoo, RAF Fairford

One of the biggest public demonstrations of RAF air and ground capability will be on display at this summer's Royal International Air Tattoo.

The display will be part of international celebrations marking the Royal Air Force centenary.

Fast jets, transports, surveillance and training aircraft will be joined by warbirds from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight as the airshow showcases the Royal Air Force's past, present and future.

Among more than 300 aircraft due to take part in the Air Tattoo will be in excess of 40 aircraft from RAF stations across the UK.

These include some of the biggest, newest and most rarely-seen - such as the Phenom trainer, the RAF's multi-engine aircrew training aircraft; the Voyager, an air-to-air refuelling and strategic air transport and the RC-135W Rivet Joint, the RAF's electronic surveillance aircraft.

And, of course, adding a splash of colour to the centenary celebrations will be the world's greatest aerobatic display team - the RAF Red Arrows.

3# Join in the carnival fun in Dursley

Carnival Dursley Music Festival is back for its second year bigger and better with a three-day event taking place on the recreation field.

The event promises to be a jam-packed weekend for all ages with fun-filled activities, entertainment and attractions at one of the biggest events in Gloucestershire this year.

Tonight's (Friday) music line-up includes Angel Up Front, Broken Ring, Masterplan, El Toro and Too Old For Toys.

On Saturday there will be Katy Perry and Bob Marley tributes, along with Kelly Griggs and the Noughty Nineties

Other attractions include comedians James Redmond and Cerys Nelmes, Savage Skills mountain bike show and talent show finals.

There will also be crafts, a fancy dress parade and funfair.

4# Enjoy a speed thrill at Prescott Hillclimb, Cheltenham

To commemorate the 80th anniversary of Prescott Hill Climb, the Gloucestershire venue will celebrate the landmark occasion with a special reunion of former hill record holders.

The July celebration centres on gathering together as many former hill records holders as possible.

The list of confirmed attendees reads like a who's who of hillclimbing: from 1960s pacesetter and multiple Hillclimb champion David Boshier-Jones, Martyn Griffiths, David Grace, David Franklin, Alister Douglas-Osborn to Chris Cramer who will be competing in the Gould 84 and current reigning six-time Hillclimb. Champion Scott Moran is also competing in a Gould.

Many of the racers will be reunited with suitable cars from their era, either for a parade or for full-on competition.

The event will feature a strong field of 150 cars on track, including a special class for Bugattis.

5# Feel the community spirit at 'The most quintessential of village fetes'

This coming Saturday (July 14) between 12 and 2:30pm, "The Most Quintessential of Village Fetes" takes place.

Upper Slaughter's fete is situated along the banks of the River Eye and is free for all to enjoy.

With river races, a prize raffle, BBQ, Pimms and beer tent, live music, ice creams, children's games and bouncy castle.

There will be a bumper white elephant stall with many treasures on sale, books, plants and a produce stall, to name but a few.

The Village Hall will serve homemade cakes, teas and coffees. Free parking. There really is no nicer way to enjoy an afternoon for the whole family in one of the prettiest village settings.
