VIDEO: SOLICITOR apprentice Max Smurthwaite Davies and Partners
By Sarah Wood and Mark Owen | 23rd April 2024
Max Smurthwaite is 22 and a trainee solicitor with Davies and Partners Solicitors in Gloucester.
Max went to The Crypt School in Gloucester before going to university. Alongside his studies, he did some work experience at Davies and Partners and went on to work as a paralegal with the firm. After his degree, he started work as a trainee solicitor and is in the first year of a two-year training contract.
It used to take six or seven years to qualify as a solicitor, but now the training has been revamped, which makes the law a more accessible, less elitist profession.
Max said: "The biggest benefit of the apprenticeship scheme is the experience you gain. The experience you build up with the firm is second to none. It really helps when it comes to the practical elements of the exam."
