Youth charity Fearless delivers record number of Gloucestershire knife crime prevention workshops

With the backdrop of the recent fatal stabbings of Ramarni Crosby and Joshua Hall in Gloucestershire, the youth charity Fearless, part of Crimestoppers, delivered a record number of knife crime prevention workshops in local secondary schools in a new initiative.

Since last November, over 900 teenagers from eight Gloucestershire secondary schools have received knife crime prevention training, via the workshops or special assemblies. It's part of a new interactive 'Fearless from knife crime prevention session', delivered by the charity's new outreach worker Gemma Hall.

Additionally, the anonymous crime reporting charity Crimestoppers last year passed on over 80 pieces of anonymous crime information to local police relating to the possession of a knife or weapon, which resulted in a person being arrested and charged.

The 'Fearless from knife crime prevention session' includes asking young people why they think their age group doesn't always report crime, what they think knife crime is, what Fearless.org is and the meaning of anonymity. An interactive quiz takes place and information is given on how they can keep themselves safe.

Fearless allows young people to learn what constitutes a crime, which activities are illegal and the consequences of criminal behaviour. It also empowers young people to speak out about crime 100% anonymously via the Fearless.org website, where a simple and secure online form can be completed.

Emily van der Lely, regional manager of Crimestoppers, said: "Our thoughts are with the friends and family of both Ramarni Crosby and Joshua Hall, whose lives were cruelly shortened due to such tragic and unnecessary circumstances. We would like to highlight the prevention work that our charity Fearless has been delivering across the county. Countless young people have attended a workshop and have subsequently chosen to not carry a knife or hang around with someone who may be carrying one.

"These new interactive workshops follow on from previous Fearless knife crime prevention work that our charity has delivered across the county over the last four years. Gemma's predecessors delivered over 500 workshops within Gloucestershire schools and youth settings, reaching over 15,000 young people.

"Some people have information about crime, but wrongly feel they don't have anywhere or anyone to turn to. Please remember that Crimestoppers, and our youth brand Fearless, is a charity that is here to help. We do not judge or take any personal details from those who contact us. All we want is the information you have. You will remain 100% anonymous. Always.

"We are grateful for the support we have received from the Gloucestershire PCC who funded this vital prevention work. We hope it can continue to have a positive impact on helping to reduce crime in the county."

Gemma, Gloucestershire Fearless outreach worker, also provides professional support workshops to increase awareness of Fearless.org. To enquire about booking, visit Fearless from knife crime prevention session.
