Business brains put knowledge to the test at Willans’ charity quiz

The fifth annual quiz staged by Gloucestershire law firm Willans LLP raised more than £2,800 for charity.

Around 170 people took part in the event at Cheltenham hotel Manor by the Lake, racking up more than 500 hours of brain power for The Nelson Trust, a charity providing support to those recovering from drug and alcohol addiction.

Teams from businesses including Brewin Dolphin, Lloyds Bank and Allcooper took part in the quiz, charity auction and raffle, which had a 70th birthday theme to celebrate the anniversary of Willans' opening in 1947.

Accountancy firm Hazlewoods LLP took the trophy, knocking last year's reigning champions Cambray Property Management down to second place, and financial advisers Warwick Butchart finished in third spot.

Paul Nurden, divisional director at Brewin Dolphin, said: "We had a fantastic night at the Willans charity quiz.

"Congratulations to them in their 70th year and for putting on such a brilliant event in support of The Nelson Trust. Brewin Dolphin are delighted to be associated with both".

Jason Maurice, of estate agents Read Maurice, conducted the charity auction that included prizes kindly donated by local businesses.

James Grigg, partner at Willans and quiz master, said: "We were delighted to see the venue bursting at the seams and to see an array of local businesses put their brain power to the test in aid of a very worthwhile local charity.

"Thank you to all who took part, volunteered their time and donated raffle and auction prizes".

Willans hopes to reach a target of £10,000 for The Nelson Trust this year through a calendar of fundraising events.

John Trolan, CEO of The Nelson Trust, said: "What a fantastic evening Willans have put on to raise funds for The Nelson Trust.

"It has been a privilege to work with the team at Willans, especially in this big birthday year. We are so grateful for their support".
