Be prepared: road will be shut for improvements

Motorists have been warned about upcoming road closures on a key route in Gloucestershire.

From 18-25 May, resurfacing and large-scale surface patching will be carried out on the B4221 near Newent.

Work will start at Kilcot Cross and continue through Gorsley up to the Gloucestershire boundary.

During the six-day period the road will be closed between 9.30am to 3.30pm on weekdays, and will reopen over the weekend.

Large scale patching work will be carried out from Kilcot Cross where the B4221 meets the B4222, to the junction with Stoney Road, Gorsley.

From Stoney Road to the junction with Kempley Road, the entire road will be resurfaced.

A diversion route will be signposted.

Cllr Will Windsor-Clive, county councillor for Forest of Dean, Newent, said: "This section of the B4221 connects residents to other major routes in and around the county, so I'm pleased to announce this positive investment in our local roads.

"Please bear with us while the work goes ahead: the end result will leave this section of road free of potholes and improve journey times."

Rhodri Grey, local highways manager at Gloucestershire County Council, said: "This work will keep a key route in good condition for drivers.

"Closure times have been planned to minimise disruption as far as possible. I would like to thank road users in advance for their patience while this goes ahead."
