University of Gloucestershire film and television production graduates were among the winners at the Royal Television Society (RTS) West of England Students Awards 2022.

The annual awards by the RTS - an educational charity promoting the art and science of television - celebrate the wealth of talent, creativity and innovation of students in the region.

Film production graduates from the university won the drama and comedy entertainment categories at the event at the Everyman Cinema, Bristol.

Izzy Macmillan, Liz Cartwright, Tom Glover, Tom Allen, Jacob Seymour-Self, Nick Martin and AW Garner won the drama award with Signed Marlo, which the judges described as: "a genuinely moving film with excellent writing and a strong narrative, clearly defined characters and well considered direction".

Liz Cartwright, Izzy Macmillan, Auke De Vries, Charlotte Curtis, Jacob Seymour-Self, Eleri Povall-Jones and Elliot Cox won the comedy and entertainment award with Afterlove. Described by the judges as "creative, clever and different, with an original plot line and an imaginative script", Afterlove features 'Angel of death' Nyx, who spends her days crossing into the living world and helping people pass into the afterlife, until she meets Katy and an unlikely romance begins.

The winning films from the West of England Centre will now be judged at the UK national level in April 2022.

Film and television production graduates from the university were also among the winners of RTS craft awards, which reward exceptional promise: Kitty Jay, Sam Fabian Miller, Macie Dell, Liam Pym, Josh Stone, Britta Merirand, Izzy Macmillan, Liz Cartwright, Amy Barnes, Rosa Samuels, Sophie Ratcliffe, Charlotte Curtis, Kesley Cooke and Izzy Hart.

Adam Batchelor, senior lecturer in Film Production in the university's School of Creative Industries, said: "Congratulations to all our graduates who won awards at the Royal Television Society (RTS) West of England Students Awards 2022.

"Winning such an accolade from the RTS is fantastic achievement and one of which they should all be very proud.

"The fact we have such a strong presence in these categories is testament to how hard our students have worked, during a challenging couple of years as a result of the pandemic.

"We wish all graduates well at the national awards in April and hope they continue to enjoy success in their careers in the television and film industries."
