UoG applications open for new degree apprenticeships

The University of Gloucestershire is working with Zurich Insurance Group to deliver new degree apprenticeships in operations and IT.

Applications are now open for September 2022 for the high-level apprenticeships, which combine workplace learning with an honours degree.

On these programmes, learners will have the opportunity to rotate across several key functions within Zurich's business, including development operations, data, innovation, continuous improvement, automation and service management.

That way, apprentices will develop a detailed understanding of the way Zurich operates, whilst also building a portfolio of technical and business skills. On their final rotation, learners will be given an opportunity to specialise in their preferred function.

Alongside their work, learners will complete a BSc in digital and technology solutions at the University of Gloucestershire. Alongside their studies, they will earn in excess of £18,000 a year.

The apprenticeship will take 36 months to complete, followed by an end point assessment.

Jude Pilcher, people development consultant at Zurich Insurance, said: "We are delighted to be adding these exciting new degree apprenticeships in operations and IT to our already extensive apprenticeships portfolio.

"For a long time now, Zurich apprenticeships have been playing a key role in supporting us to develop the skills we need for the future.

"Through this new partnership with University of Gloucestershire, we are able to address particular skills needs around data analysis, network engineering and software engineering.

"We are hoping to hear from a range of applicants, including both school leavers and established professionals who may be looking to take their career to a new level."

Dr Polly Pick, University of Gloucestershire's director of business engagement and partnerships, said: "These apprenticeships provide a fantastic mix of corporate experience, along with high-level academic study. As such, they really do offer learners the best of both worlds.

"We are thrilled to be working with Zurich in delivering these programmes, as they provide a fantastic opportunity for local talent, including those who may not feel a traditional university degree is for them.

"As a university, we have ambitions to grow our apprenticeship community to around 2,000 learners by 2025. Working with local employers to identify skills needs is key to this, as these partnerships mean we can develop a portfolio of programmes to match employer needs."
