Students’ video games to feature at industry event

University of Gloucestershire students have been selected to showcase their games at a prestigious industry event.

The students will show off their imagination and creativity at Insomnia 2024, giving them opportunities to make connections with industry experts and employers.

A selection of video games designed and produced by four teams of students from the university's MSc game development, MSc sound and music production, BSc computer games design, BSc computer games programming and BSc games art programmes will be featured at Insomnia: The Gaming Festival 2024.

First launched more than 20 years ago, this year's festival (March 28-31) is expected to attract tens of thousands of visitors, including gaming enthusiasts, creators and industry professionals, to Birmingham NEC.

The students' games are being exhibited as part of a large programme of activities, including playable games, live e-sports tournaments, VR and AR experiences, and the latest gaming and tech innovations.

The games, which were all devised and created during the students' academic programmes, were selected by the organisers of Insomnia after being recommended for consideration by course tutors at the university.

Zayd Dawood, academic course leader in MSc games development, said: "We're absolutely thrilled that a selection of video games designed and produced by our students will be featured at the upcoming Insomnia: The Gaming Festival.

"The opportunity to exhibit their fantastic work on such a massive stage will enable our students to promote their skills and knowledge to thousands of visitors, gain valuable feedback from the gaming community and, potentially, open up important access to employers and creators from within the sector."
