University of Gloucestershire joining forces to help narrow digital skills gap in South West

The University of Gloucestershire is among a consortium of universities, colleges, councils, enterprise partners and Deloitte working together in the South West to respond to the UK's digital skills gap.

The group has been chosen by the Department for Education (DfE) to deliver a series of funded Skills Bootcamps offering short courses across the region tailored to meet the needs of employers and those looking to upskill to boost their employability.

The University of Gloucestershire, University of Bath, Bath Spa University, the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) and Wiltshire College and University Centre have collaborated with the Institute of Coding (IoC), iStart/Restart, Deloitte and Digital Engineering Technology and Innovation (DETI) to develop and deliver the programme.

The Skills Bootcamps will provide access to digital skills courses, deliver resilient pathways to work and create a new, skilled talent pool for employers. Topics will include creative computing, cyber security, data science, software engineering, games development and agritech.

The University of Gloucestershire will deliver regional Skills Bootcamps in Data Science and Software Engineering. It also recently announced it had been selected to run a national Cyber Analyst Skills Bootcamp through its Growth Hub, working with the IoC and a range of regional partners, including GFirst LEP, CyNam - an employer consortium representing cyber-tech companies in the region, Cheltenham Borough Council and the Golden Valley Development.

The University also offers a degree apprenticeship in Cyber Security.

Prospective learners and interested employers can learn more about the Skills Bootcamps on offer across the South West at www.iocskillsbootcamps.co.uk.
