Clothes help to get a job in Stroud

Stroud District Council has joined forces with Stroud Library to launch a pilot scheme to help people look smart at job interviews and get into employment.

The Interview Clothing Rail will be in Stroud Library through November into early December and will contain high-quality secondhand clothes suitable for interviews. The clothes will be available to anyone who has a job interview, but can't afford to buy a smart outfit.

Cllr Catherine Braun, leader of Stroud District Council, said: "We want everyone in our district to have the opportunity to go into an interview feeling confident. The scheme has been inspired by Gloucestershire Recycles' textiles campaign, Wear Not Waste, and has come at a time when many people are struggling with the cost of living. We hope people will find it useful."

Cllr Natalie Bennett, deputy leader, said: "The pilot is in line with our work to protect our environment and making our district carbon neutral by 2030.

"However, we hope that this will also strengthen our communities by helping in practical ways to tackle the barriers to employment that unemployed people in our district face."

People can access the Interview Clothing Rail during the library's opening hours:

  • Monday 9.30am-6.30pm
  • Tuesday 9.30am-5pm
  • Wednesday 9.30am-5pm
  • Thursday 9.30am-2pm
  • Friday 9.30am-6.30pm
  • Saturday 9.30am-4pm

Stroud Library is run by Gloucestershire County Council and is located at Lansdown, Stroud.
