University teaching quality best in South West

Hartpury University ranks first in the South West and sixth in the UK for teaching quality, according to The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide for 2023.

The institution was also named 14th in the UK for student experience and climbed seven places overall in the UK-wide table.

The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide includes definitive rankings for 132 British universities, based on their performance in areas for undergraduates including facilities, quality of teaching and graduate career prospects.

The survey uses data gathered from the National Student Survey 2022 (NSS) - the largest survey of its kind, in which Hartpury was named number one English mainstream university in the 'Teaching on my Course' category.

In May, Hartpury University won the Lecturers and Teaching Quality category at the national WhatUni Student Choice Awards (WUSCAs), fending off competition from 94 other institutions.

Hartpury was also rated as the top university in the South West for facilities, and came ninth of 95 institutions in the UK University of the Year category. Both the NSS and WUSCAs are based on feedback from the students themselves.

Rosie Scott-Ward, pro vice-chancellor of Hartpury University said: "We're thrilled to have received such positive results from The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide in only our fourth year since gaining university status.

"We're particularly encouraged by the recognition given to the quality of our teaching and the overall student experience - both essential components of the university experience. I'd like to say a special thank you to each and every member of staff who has worked tirelessly to ensure students receive the highest level of teaching and support.

"During the past year, we've invested further in the facilities we have at Hartpury University to ensure we provide the very best learning environment alongside the highest quality teaching."
