University launches new business management degree

Hartpury University has unveiled a brand-new BSc (Hons) business management degree for September 2024 applications.

This degree will be the university's first higher education qualification outside of its traditional land-based and sport specialisms.

It will be complemented by a new top-up MBA, also launching in 2024, for those wishing to top-up existing postgraduate qualifications and progress their business career.

The new business pathway is targeted at students who want to become confident business professionals and pursue a career in national and international sectors in roles such as business analyst, supply chain manager, project manager or investment banker.

Developed in consultation with leading business professionals, the undergraduate degree will equip students with an in-depth understanding of the core principles of business and leadership, as well as essential transferable skills and applied industry experience.

Students will study a series of core modules that have been developed exclusively for the degree, including: the essentials of business management; being a business leader; marketing business consultancy; business analytics and finance; project management and managing change; live business consultancy; and global business environment.

Students studying business management at Hartpury can develop real-world experience, having access to 11 commercial businesses on site and identifying ways in which their projects would be commercialised.

As part of their studies, they can take on business briefs with Hartpury's sports academies and professional teams or engage with the Digital Innovation Farm and Tech Box Park to explore sustainability and agri-technology.

Students on the course will have the option of an integrated placement year between the second and final year, as well as the opportunity to study a semester or full year internationally at a partner institution.

While this is the first standalone business degree offered by the university, Hartpury already delivers business degrees within its specialist subject areas, including sport, equine and racing.

The Hartpury Sports Business Hub has linked students with business, placing individuals to carry out consultancy projects and research placements with clubs and organisations including Sport Wales, Bream RFC, Gloucestershire County Cricket Club and Active Gloucester.

Dr Steve Butts, academic dean: teaching, learning and student experience at Hartpury University, said: "Our new business management degrees build upon Hartpury's externally recognised excellence in teaching and learning, as well as capitalising on our powerful links with industry. Both the BSc and MBA offer an exciting alternative pathway for those seeking broader options away from the land-based and sports degrees for which we're so well known."

The BSc (Hons) business management degree will welcome its first cohort of students in September 2024.

The MBA top-up will offer start dates of either September or January, studied part-time over one year.
