Catering students partner with Cotswolds hotel group

Catering and hospitality students at Gloucestershire College will once again be working with the luxurious Farncombe Estate.

Farncombe Estate in the Cotswolds is home to three hotels and offers a range of dining experiences with locally sourced produce.

The college is partnering with the company for the fourth year running, to offer students a number of opportunities throughout their time at college.

Earlier this month, students had a tour of the estate and an introduction to some of the staff and their roles at Farncombe.

Experiences later in the year include three masterclasses led by Farncombe Estate's experienced chefs, who bring their skills and knowledge to the kitchens at the college's Forest of Dean and Cheltenham campuses. The chefs will work with small groups of students to introduce them to various techniques and create as many courses as possible, pushing their abilities and sparking a lifelong passion for creating beautiful food.

Farncombe Estate also works hard to introduce new produce and ingredients to students, using industry connections from suppliers such as Flying Fish Seafoods.

Martin Burge, culinary director at Farncombe Estate, said: "Farncombe Estate is very passionate about growth and development within the hospitality industry, so supporting young people who are aspiring to be chefs is something that we're super passionate about. We want to see the younger generation develop and move forward, which is why we put lots of time and effort into mentoring from a young age."

Following successful work experience placements last year, a number of Gloucestershire College's professional cookery students were offered roles at Farncombe Estate, and will be supported by a well-established mentoring programme, so that they can continue to learn and develop new skills.
