Students work on King’s Foundation project at Highgrove

Horticulture students from Cirencester College have been involved in a project at the King's private residence.

Students worked with the King's Foundation at Highgrove to create a new atmospheric seating area in the garden at Barley Court.

The feature uses recycled stone, and students worked with local masons from Cirencester-based company Heritage Lime. The experience and training complemented the skills the students learn at college.

Piers Lavan, horticulture tutor, said the experience was: "Ideal for the new T-level course, it included design and planning, heritage landscaping and social and environmental responsibility, but it was also really good fun."

Students also had an in-depth tour of Highgrove Gardens, which was an opportunity to see and discuss the many beautiful architectural and sculptural stone features, which are laid bare in the winter months to reveal the structural bones of the crafted landscape.
