College celebrates £3.5m building

Work on a new £3.5m building for Cirencester College is well underway.

The steelwork has started to go up for the building, which is set to be completed in autumn 2024.

T-level construction: design, planning and surveying students had the honour of visiting the building site and participating in a signing of the steel ceremony, along with their lecturers, senior staff at the college, builders from E G Carter & Co Ltd and architects from Roberts Limbrick.

This development, set to be called The Avebury Building, is partially funded through a £2.8m grant from the Department for Education's Post-16 Capacity Fund, which the college has secured to accommodate the increasing numbers of students choosing to study in Cirencester.

The three-storey building will provide three large classrooms, a new home for the pastoral care team and an expansion to dining, study and social space for the students.

This development follows the opening of the college's new Art Loft, £5m specialist T-level building and the Gloucestershire Digital Skills Centre.

It forms part of the innovative design work of Roberts Limbrick architects, which has played a major part in the redesign of the campus and transformation of the front of the college.

Matt Reynolds, interim principal at Cirencester College, said: "It's great to sign the steels for our new building with our contractors and T-level construction learners.

"Archaeologists look for makers' marks in ancient buildings, and here we are leaving traces for future generations with our brand-new state-of-the-art build. We're so excited about our campus development and the fact that we're creating a world class educational environment. It's just fantastic for our young people."

Levi Summers, contracts manager at E G Carter & Co Ltd, said: "We are pleased to collaborate once again with Cirencester College on the development of the new Avebury Building. The steel signing event provided a meaningful opportunity for both staff and students to make a lasting impression within the building.

"We are looking forward to seeing the positive impact that the new facility will have on the students of Cirencester College."

David Wint, senior associate at Roberts Limbrick, said: "We are excited to be continuing our work with Cirencester College on this fantastic new facility to create much needed additional space for learning, dining and student support. This is another example of the long-term vision that the college has been so successful in implementing over the past five years."
