Cheltenham MP, Alex Chalk, has welcomed the news that schools in Cheltenham will receive an extra £2.3 million of funding this year and next.

The £2.3 million uplift to school funding in Cheltenham is part of the Government's announcement that schools across England will receive an extra £2 billion in funding from May 2023.

The funding boost for Cheltenham's schools means the town's secondary schools will receive an additional £200,000, whilst Cheltenham primary schools will receive an additional £35,000.

The increased funding will be used to support salary uplifts, learning materials, running costs and school trips.

Following a series of meetings and calls with Cheltenham headteachers, Mr Chalk met with the school's minister this week to discuss the feedback he has received and to pledge his continued support for education in Cheltenham.

Alex Chalk said: "We are extremely lucky to have so many wonderful schools here in Cheltenham, with such dedicated and talented teachers.

"So I welcome this £2.3m cash boost, which will help Cheltenham schools to continue to give our young people the best possible chance to go as far as their talents will take them."
