HGV skills bootcamp

Gloucestershire College is offering an opportunity to work towards becoming an HGV driver.

The skills bootcamp will give learners the chance to gain new knowledge and skills, with an end goal of becoming a Class 1 HGV driver. At the end of the course, learners will gain either their CAT C or CAT C+E HGV licence.

To apply, students must be aged 19+ and unemployed and seeking work. They should be generally fit and healthy and able to commit to daily attendance.

The course will be delivered in a safe and fun learning environment. It introduces students to transporting and moving goods within the logistics sector to the required knowledge.

The course covers:

• Planning and use of goods vehicles in the logistics sector

• Health, safety and security

• Regulatory requirements, communication

• Route planning and monitoring the vehicle and load during transportation

• Driver Certificate Professional Competence (CPC), for example vehicle security, vehicle checks and physical and mental wellbeing

This course is free for those registered as unemployed - proof of unemployment will be required prior to enrolment. Students must hold a current full UK driving licence.

Learners will undergo an initial assessment in maths and English. A reasonable level of both written and spoken English are essential.

The course will be delivered full-time over two weeks for the classroom sessions.

This is followed by a five day practical driving training course delivered over a week, which may not follow on directly from the classroom weeks. (Learners must attend every day in order to gain their initial CPC certificate after the practical).
