Free maths or English course for over-50s

Free maths or English courses are back at SGS College for the over fifties.

Held over two days, the free Discover course will see participants explore an exciting location and gain a qualification in either English or maths.

Past learners have said the course increased their confidence and self-esteem, and the day trip was the icing on top.

The college said: "We recognise how difficult the last year has been for many people in lockdown and so many have been isolated from the outside world with little or no social interaction.

"With government's roadmap commencing and easing of restrictions, we are excited to offer you the chance to join us on our Discover course. With your safety of paramount importance and exercising all necessary precautions, we offer you a chance to meet new people, see new places and gain a qualification."

Sarah Kopera, head of adult community learning at the college, said: "There is encouraging evidence that learning helps people stay healthier and happier for longer. Now more than ever we need to connect with others, explore new places and discover new interests."

Day trips include:

• Hampton Court - 18th July

• Blenheim Palace - 25th July

• Bletchley Park - 31st July

Course dates and locations:

Maths: June 3rd (Stroud), June 5th (Bristol), July 10th (Bristol)

English: June 19th (Bristol), July 7th (Stroud), July 17th (Bristol)
