Trial begins for teenager charged with murder
By Court reporter | 18th October 2021
A 16-year-old youth has today (October 18) gone on trial accused of murdering 17-year old Joshua Hall at a sports ground in Cam earlier this year.
Last week the first jury to be sworn in for the trial at Gloucester Crown Court had to be discharged after the prosecutor Richard Smith QC tested positive for Covid-19.
The judge, Mr Justice Chamberlain, stopped the trial because of Mr Smith's situation and today a second jury of eight men and four women were sworn in.
They were told that the defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was 15 at the time of the alleged murder of Joshua Hall.
The jury was told that Joshua had been involved in an incident at Cam sports ground on Friday April 16 and he died from his injuries the following day in hospital.
The judge explained that the new prosecutor James Dawes QC would formally open the case to them tomorrow morning (October 19).
The teenager, wearing a dark suit, sat next to his mother, in the dock. He denies murdering Joshua Hall at Cam, near Dursley, Glos, on Saturday, April 17, 2020.
The trial continues tomorrow and is expected to last up to three weeks.
