Hartpury's community BioBlitz aiming to identify 1,000 species

Hartpury University and Hartpury College will host its annual Bioblitz event this Friday and Saturday (May 10 and 11).

The BioBlitz is a 24-hour event in which teams of volunteers, families, students, teachers, and other community members work together to find and identify as many species of plants, animals, fungi, and other organisms as possible.

Hartpury University and Hartpury College is aiming to identify 1,000 species before the clock runs out, and should know the final number by around 11am on Saturday.

Around 120 school children (infant - sixth form) are expected to attend Hartpury to help with surveys as well as carrying out other sessions such as crafts. Infant school age children will also pay a visit to the farm whilst on campus.

In addition, there's a bat talk and walk, a moth survey, and a dawn chorus walk on Saturday morning - these are open to the public.

The moth traps will run overnight (and be cleared first thing in the morning) so some interesting moth species may also be identified.
