First phase of Gloucester's £107m The Forum development reaches completion

Developer Reef Group, in partnership with Gloucester City Council, has completed Phase One of The Forum.

This includes Whitefriars, Gloucester city centre's new residential address, featuring a rooftop garden for residents with views of Gloucester Cathedral. Whitefriars is accompanied by a retail space, occupied by Tesco.

Constructed by Gloucester-based construction firm E G Carter & Co Ltd, Phase One is part of the £107m project to transform the city's former King's Quarter area into The Forum, creating a new digital quarter in the heart of Gloucester.

Phase One has delivered the residential and key retail elements of The Forum, with Whitefriars offering 19 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments.

The apartments range in size from 39 sq m (419 sq ft) for a studio to 98 sq m (1,054 sq ft) for a three-bedroom apartment. Each apartment has two secure cycle park space.

Esther Croft, development director at Reef, said: "Whitefriars is designed be a delight to live in - from both an aesthetic and sustainability perspective. Located in the heart of Gloucester, with amenities and transport links right on the doorstep, and countryside not far away, Whitefriars offers a comfortable and beautiful base to enjoy an exciting city lifestyle.

"I'd like to thank our contractor E G Carter & Co for delivering the project to such an excellent build standard. We've had very positive feedback from those who've already visited the show home, with everyone enjoying the rooftop terrace and its panoramic views of the city and the hills beyond."

Councillor Richard Cook, leader of Gloucester City Council, added: "Whitefriars offers the perfect pad for city centre living. Design-led, energy efficient and finished to an exceptionally high standard, these homes point to Gloucester's vibrant future, and the opportunities being unlocked through The Forum."

E G Carter & Co Ltd was appointed by Gloucester City Council, in partnership with Reef Group, to construct Phase One of The Forum in May 2021.

Phase Two of The Forum is being constructed by Kier Construction and will deliver 135,000 sq ft of Grade A office space, alongside a four-star hotel, rooftop restaurant, digital conference centre, 9,000 sq ft wellness centre and a members' club.

The Forum is due to be completed in late 2024.
