100 artists exhibiting in Stroud

More than 100 artists are showing their works across two fabulous Stroud venues.

The 100 Artists Art Exhibition is running at Lansdown Hall & Gallery and the Sub Rooms from Wednesday, May 8, to Sunday, May 12.

The Stroud Arts Cooperative was set up in 2021 as a way for artists to come together and support each other after Covid. The first event was a pop-up art fair on the forecourt at The Sub Rooms - since those early days, a small dedicated team of volunteers have put on events and exhibitions several times a year, giving local artists a way of getting their work out there.

This year the Cooperative hit the 100 full members milestone and is now up to 130 full members along with about 80 associate members.

So what better way to celebrate than an exhibition for all 100 (or so) artists?

A spokesperson said: "We have such a range and breadth of talent it is truly breathtaking, so this exhibition featuring the best of their work will be outstanding, dynamic and fun - come and see us!"

Visitors exploring the exhibition can expect a diverse visual display showcasing various styles, techniques, and themes:

  • A vibrant display of paintings capturing landscapes, portraits, abstract art, and more
  • Intricate sculptures crafted with precision and creativity, each telling its own story
  • Photography showcasing moments frozen in time, from local scenes to thought-provoking images
  • Mixed media artworks combining various materials to create stunning visual effects
  • Interactive installations inviting viewers to engage with art in new and exciting ways

The 100 Artists exhibition is not just a display of talent but also a testament to the power of art in bringing communities together. It serves as a platform for local artists to shine, connect with one another, and inspire visitors with their passion and dedication.

The event is set to leave a lasting impression on all who attend, highlighting the rich artistic tapestry woven by the creative minds of Stroud and its environs.

Art serves a purpose beyond decoration; it aims to provoke; make you think; see things from a different perspective; smile and find the humour in it all.

Entry to the exhibition is free.

Viewing is 10am-4pm each day (3pm on Sunday); Late viewing is Friday, May 10, 5pm-7pm at The Sub Rooms and 6pm-8pm at Lansdown Gallery.
