BBC iPlayer login needed by 2017
27th September 2016

As of next year BBC iPlayer will require users to have a login in order to access television programmes.
Users can already create an account known as a BBC ID, however it is not currently a necessity to access iPlayer.
From today, BBC ID accounts will also need a post code. TV licensing will have access to the information, but the BBC say that it will not be used for enforcement, but they also add that it could be used in the future.
This does suggest that it will be a new way of policing the new policy out this month, that all users of BBC iPlayer must have a TV license.
Before this policy, a TV licence was only necessary for viewers watching live television, meaning that iPlayer viewers could avoid the annual fee of £145.50.
The BBC has said "significant numbers of new people" have bought licenses since the new rules came into effect.
