Sales down for Mothercare

Nursery retailer, Mothercare, saw a big fall in sales last year.

But the retailer managed to stay in profit. Mothercare said its adjusted EBITDA for the year to March 30 was slightly above the £6.7m in the previous year, as reported by Retail Gazette.

Draft figures for worldwide retail sales by franchise partners showed a 13% fall to £281m for the year.

Sales were hit by market conditions in the Middle East, which makes up 41% of Mothercare's total retail sales. Year-on-year retail sale for the UK were up.

Mothercare in the UK went into administration and closed all of its stores in 2019. Mothercare branded products are sold by Boots in the UK. The business works with franchise partners around the world.
