Restaurant closes in the Cotswolds

A Cotswold bar, café and restaurant that has been running since 2006 has closed down after 18 years of trade – but Punchline-Gloucester.com can reveal that the service could be up and running again soon.

Sitting in a prime position opposite Tetbury's Market House and the Snooty Fox Hotel, Quayles Cornerhouse bistro had become an integral part of the town's food and drinks offer and its closure has been met with sadness across the community.

A combination of factors, including health issues, had forced the reluctant decision from owners Philippa and David Herbert, who offered the final menu options on March 23.

Mrs Herbert said in a statement: "We are very sorry to say that after a great deal of soul searching, David and I have decided to bring the curtains down on Quayles Cornerhouse. A combination of personal matters, including our youngest daughter's sudden, grave illness last year, David's accident in August and our collective age, we feel that the time has come to stop.

Over the last 18 years, our business has developed and changed to meet the ever moving landscape of the high street. We have sailed some very stormy seas, with national and global events that have shaped all of our lives, most significantly of course the pandemic in 2019. It's been a journey!"

The couple thanked their team and customers for their "unwavering support and kindness" and praised Tetbury for its "golden surroundings, beautiful buildings and amazing bespoke businesses that really set it apart".

Specific future use of the now-closed address, which is a short drive from King Charles' country seat at Highgrove and which sits at the town's busiest point, remains as yet unknown, but Mrs Herbert told Punchline-Gloucester.com today: "At the moment we are exploring avenues for the reopening of the shop under new management."
