Recycling reminder to Cheltenham residents

Cheltenham Borough Council is expecting an increase in visits to its Swindon Road Household Recycling Centre whilst Wingmoor Farm HRC closes for maintenance and improvement works.

The Bishop's Cleeve site closed on Monday and is expected to reopen in mid-March.

During the temporary closure, Cheltenham Borough Council want to remind residents of the opening hours and advise there are certain items that will not be accepted at Swindon Road HRC.

Cllr Iain Dobie, member for waste, recycling & street services, said: "Whilst Gloucestershire County Council undertakes its maintenance and improvement works at Wingmoor Farm HRC, we are expecting an increase in Cheltenham residents who will be looking to take recycled items to our Swindon Road facility.

"During this period, we are urging residents to take note of the opening hours of the site as well as make themselves familiar with the types of recycling the site can take, which differ from Wingmoor Farm HRC.

"We appreciate residents' understanding whilst we navigate this temporary change."

Cheltenham residents visiting Swindon Road HRC are reminded that there are some items the site is unable to take including:

  • DIY and builders' rubble, including asbestos, plate glass or plaster boardsoil
  • books
  • tyres or other car parts
  • paint
  • gas bottles
  • hazardous waste including asbestos
  • clinical waste
  • animal waste
  • trade waste
  • commercial waste
  • toilets and hand basins

The site is unable to accept hard plastics until further notice. These items must be taken to alternative Gloucestershire recycling centres.

Opening times for Swindon Road HRC are:

  • Monday 8.30am - 4pm
  • Tuesday 8.30am - 4pm
  • Wednesday Closed in line with Gloucestershire County Council sites
  • Thursday 8.30am - 4pm
  • Friday 8.30am - 4pm
  • Saturday 8.30am - 3pm
  • Sunday 9am - 12pm

Please be aware that the household recycling centre must close at the time stated. In order to have the site cleared and gates closed, the last entry is approximately 30 minutes before closing, depending on the length of the queue on the entrance road to the site. Please bear these time restrictions in mind if attempting to visit a site towards the end of the opening hours.

Commercial vehicles such as vans are not allowed on the site.

More details about the facilities available at Swindon Road Household Recycling Centre are available via Cheltenham Borough Council's website.
