COMPETITION: Favourite Christmas games

Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without the family working off the Christmas lunch by playing some classic board games.

Punchline-Gloucester.com readers have the chance to win a £25 gift card to use in either Gloucester or Cheltenham by suggesting their favourite Christmas game.

Here's a few suggestions of favourite games played by the Punchline team.

Risk: The strategy board game of diplomacy, conflict and conquest was invented in 1957 but is still a firm favourite. The standard version is played on a board depicting a political map of the world, divided into 42 territories, which are grouped into six continents. Turns rotate among players who control armies of playing pieces with which they attempt to capture territories from other players, with results determined by dice rolls. The goal of the game is to occupy every territory on the board and, in doing so, eliminate the other players. The game can be lengthy, requiring several hours to multiple days to finish.

Pictureka! This game provides laugh-out-loud fun for family and friends as players try to find it fast and find it first! The game features nine game tiles filled with whimsical pictures that players race to find as directed on their mission cards. If they find the object they keep the mission card. The player with the most cards wins the game! Simon says even a half-conscious, overfed slouch who'd rather watch TV can enjoy the short-lived excitement until the thing is put away for another year.

Mysterium: Mysterium, by Libellud, is a game of deduction. A group of players work as a team to decipher the true meanings of cryptic 'visions' sent from a ghost. Mysterium is highly thematic with gorgeous components, allowing players to be inventive and interact with lots of table discussion. In Mysterium, players take on the roles of gifted mediums with the ability to communicate with the undead. One player becomes the ghost whose spirit is doomed to haunt the mansion forever after becoming the victim of a hideous crime.

5 Second Rule: This game is deceptively simple. Each card asks you to name three things. For example, the card might say, "Name three breeds of dog." Sounds easy, right? But the catch is you only have 5 seconds to answer. The unusual Twisting Timer will make players panic as it counts down. This means players will often shout out the first thing they think of.

Cluedo: Another classic board game which is a particular favourite of Punchline reporter Sarah Wood, who said: "I first got it for Christmas when I was eight and always enjoyed it - probably because I've always enjoyed murder mystery books and TV shows. We still play now, but the modern version is a bit more complicated than the version I had back in the day."

Dobble: A speed and observation game for the whole family. The aim of the game? Each two cards have one symbol in common. Be the first to find and name it to win the card.

To have a chance of winning a £25 Gloucester Gift Card or Cheltenham Gift Card, simply email your favourite Christmas game and preference of gift card to beth@moosemarketingandpr.co.uk.
