Primark on track for sustainability target

Value fashion giant, Primark, said it is on track to make all clothes from more sustainably sourced or recycled materials by 2030.

According to its 2023 Sustainability and Ethics Report, 55% of its clothes were made in this way this year, up from 45% last year, as reported by Retail Gazette.

Over the year, the retailer, which has stores in Gloucester and Cheltenham, increased its use of sustainable cotton. Forty-six per cent of cotton clothing sold contained material which was either recycled, organic or sourced from the Primark Sustainable Cotton Programme, up from 40% last year.

Primark is currently being assessed and validated by the Science Based Targets initiative, as it aims to cut carbon emissions by 50% by 2030.

It has also rolled out a traceability and compliance platform, to help it better understand and manage the supply chain - from raw materials to the end product.
