Plans to tranform derelict mental health home site in Gloucester

A derelict site in between Barnwood and Abbeydale could be filled with 35 new affordable homes.
Bromford Housing Association Ltd has applied to redevelop the 3.4 acre plot of land in West Lodge Drive.
It used to contain an NHS mental health care home known as Holly House but it closed in 2009 and the site has sat empty since it was demolished a few years later.
The freehold was put up for sale in October 2021 for an undisclosed sum.
Bromford wants to turn it into a development of one-storey bungalows and two-storey semi-detached and terraced homes.
There would be a new road into the estate created off West Lodge Drive and every home would have at least one designated parking space.
All of the homes would be for social rent and be comprised of two two-bed bungalows, 15 two-bed homes, 16 three-bed homes and two four-bed homes.
In its application (23/00954/FUL) to Gloucester City Council, Bromford said the site is two miles from the city centre and within walking and cycling distance of a health centre, convenience stores, supermarket, post office, schools, a restaurant and sports facilities, making it ideal for a housing development.
It added: "The proposal will create a high quality residential development that will deliver high quality place making whilst providing much needed new affordable homes."
Gloucester-based housing association Bromford owns and manages 46,000 homes across the Midlands and southwest.
It is currently constructing a £20m development of 71 affordable homes on the site of the former Douglas Equipment factory in Cheltenham.
In September it secured £100m funding from three private investors to build 12,000 new homes over the next eight years.
