Councillor Adrian Birch has been appointed co-deputy leader of Forest of Dean District Council, alongside Cllr Andy Moore.
He replaces Cllr Jackie Fraser who has reluctantly decided to step down from her role for personal reasons.
Cllr Birch said: "I'd like to offer many thanks to Cllr Fraser for her contribution to the council leadership for the last nine months. She's done a fantastic job.
"I'm honoured to take on the job of co-deputy leader and look forward to working closely with Councillors Topping and Moore; and indeed, all members and staff to ensure we maintain continuity and provide the best service possible to our residents."
Cllr Fraser, cabinet member for environment, said: "I was incredibly pleased to accept the position of joint deputy to the leader in June of last year and have thoroughly enjoyed my time in the role. However, at this present time I am unable to fulfil the shared duties of the role due to other commitments.
"I'm delighted that Cllr Birch has accepted the position and have no doubt that he'll carry out the role dutifully. Furthermore, I'm excited to continue delivering for the Forest in my role as cabinet member for the environment."
Cllr Fraser will continue in her role as cabinet member for environment. Likewise, Cllr Birch will keep his portfolio as cabinet member for built environment.
Full details for the cabinet members and their responsibilities can be found on the council website.
