John Lewis shoplifter ordered to pay compensation

A 41-year-old shoplifter who targeted Cheltenham's John Lewis store three times in a month has been ordered to pay full compensation for the goods he stole - but received no other penalty.

At Cheltenham Magistrates Court David Collins, of Richards Road, Swindon Village, admitted stealing an iron and steamer priced at £82.98 from the store on December 13, 2023.

He also admitted returning on January 9, 2024, when he took fragrances worth £123.50, and again on January 14, 2024, when he stole a further £114 worth of fragrances.

He was ordered to pay compensation for the stolen items but the magistrates made no other orders against him because of his 'limited means.'
