Grumpy Old Men pose for 'Antique Rogues Show' calendar

A dozen self-confessed Grumpy Old Men from Gloucestershire have posed semi-naked for a fundraising calendar.

A dozen self-confessed Grumpy Old Men who meet once a week for a few pints and a chat about the state of the world have posed semi-naked for a fundraising calendar - and they're hoping Fiona Bruce will be impressed!

For the 'Grumpys' club members at Newnham-on-Severn, near Gloucester, have called their calendar 'The Antique Rogues Show' in tribute to the TV show Fiona has presented for the last 16 years.

The men who rose to the challenge to bare just about all for the photoshoot come from all walks of life and include a city banker, an ex-headmaster, an emeritus vice-principal, builder, policeman, postmaster, farmer and machine tooler.

A spokesperson said: "Late every Friday afternoon this group of 'middle-age' men, known locally as 'The Grumpies', meet at the historic Newnham Club to argue, discuss, distort, project and provoke local discourse.

"Between 5-7pm, they engage in lively but intelligently friendly debate over three very quick pints before meandering home.

"The group regularly organise events to help keep The Newnham Club going in the form of barbecues, curry nights and Christmas dinners, but last year a local young woman with a penchant for the more mature man provoked heated discussion when she suggested that the Grumpies should raise funds for the club through the production of a semi-nude calendar.

"Initially laughed off, this suggestion was allowed to ferment and this summer the photographic shoot began with a dozen or so 'Grumpys' agreeing to participate.

"Tall, short, plump, skinny, pale, tanned, warty, hirsute, the Grumpys come in all shapes and sizes - except pretty.

"Their efforts have now been realised and the calendars are about to go on sale to the expectant Newnham-on-Severn community and, if we are to be believed, far beyond.

"With an initial print run of 150, the Grumpys hope to turn their 'Antique Rogue Show' into financial gold, aiming to quadruple their investment and give all the profits to The Newnham Club.

"Whether, 'basic', 'better' or 'best', that certainly would make Fiona Bruce happy!"
