It was Cheltenham's most popular club in the 90s, now a planning application has been submitted to transform the former Gas into flats.

Gibson House on St James Square in the town centre is a Grade II listed building. The five-storey building was last used as a nightclub at the end of 2004 and is now derelict.

Greenaway Planning Ltd, acting on behalf of owner Mike Gibson, has applied to Cheltenham Borough Council for permission to turn the building into 14 one and two-bed flats.

In addition, Greenaway Planning has applied for permission to demolish the neighbouring Burton House, to replace it with a brand new three-storey building, providing another eight one and two-bed apartments.

According to the Heritage Statement supporting the application, Burton House is 'a non-designated heritage asset'. It doesn't appear on the list of locally indexed buildings and it is not identified as a positive building within the Appraisal and Management Plan.

Regarding Gibson House, the Heritage Statement said: "The assessment has found that the proposed alterations to Gibson House are sensitive to its historic character and original function as a Neo-Classical residence and will constitute a minor heritage benefit through the enhancement of the building's architectural and historic illustrative value."

In 2018, the council turned down an application to convert Gibson House into 14 flats and to replace Burton house with a four-storey building, containing 11 flats.
