BREAKING NEWS: Businesses sought with vision for former Chambers pub

The transformation of Kings Square in Gloucester is set to take another step forward as the former Chambers pub comes on to the market.

Gloucester City Council is set to advertise the prime Gloucester site and is seeking businesses that can enhance the vision for the recently revamped Kings Square.

The square reopened last year after undergoing a facelift by the council and its partners Reef Group, with the installation of sweeping granite seating areas, water fountains, greenery and atmospheric lighting inspired by the Severn Bore.

The council is looking for a food and drink operator to take on the site, which offers 3,500 sq ft of trading space, with an opportunity for an outdoor seating area.

The new tenants will occupy a key location, linking Kings Square and the refurbished Kings Walk Shopping Centre with The Forum, the recently completed Whitefriars development and the soon to be completed University campus in the former Debenhams building.

It is hoped that a new occupier will be able to make the site a destination for both daytime and evening activity and create a café culture, perhaps promoting the region's talented food and drink producers.

Above the site is Kings House where the council has worked with partners to establish a cultural hub for Jolt, an incubator for creative and cultural businesses and entrepreneurs, and The Music Works, with music studios, teaching rooms and performance spaces.

Councillor Richard Cook, leader of Gloucester City Council, said: "We know that there has been a lot of interest in what will happen to the Chambers pub, and quite rightly, as it is a key part of the huge £200 million regeneration taking place around Kings Quarter.

"We're keen to attract a tenant who will help us take that vision forward and who is as ambitious as we are to make Gloucester a vibrant city, with plenty to offer both the day and night time economy."
