Bin your mobile phones at the rugby for a good cause

Rugby fans are being urged to rummage around for their old mobile phones to support our charity campaign.

Punchline-Gloucester.com has teamed up with Lister Unified Communications to spearhead a phone recycling initiative for the Stroud-based The Nelson Trust.

Six phone recycling bins have been installed at Kingsholm for supporters to deposit their old or unused mobile phones and help lives affected by addiction and multiple disadvantages.

The phones will be in place for tomorrow evening's match between Gloucester-Hartpury and Harlequins Women and remain there for the rest of the season.

Rob Lister, managing director of Stonehouse-based Lister Unified Communications, said: "We are thrilled that Gloucester Rugby and Gloucester Hartpury have agreed to have bins for mobile phones for the Gloucester Hartpury game against Harlequins on Friday, which is International Women's Day, so please get down to Kingsholm to support our team and, of course, bring an old phone to the game."

Mark Owen, editor of Punchline-Gloucester.com said: "Could everyone please look in their drawers and in the cupboards? We all have them hidden away somewhere, mobile phones we used to cherish that are not used anymore. We are not asking for money but looking to recycle old phones to help those most vulnerable in society to get the help they need. A small gesture like this will go a long way."

About 1,000 old phones have already been donated to the campaign for recycling but we're encouraging many more businesses and residents in Gloucestershire to join the campaign.

Rob added: "We are really pleased with the first phase of the mobile recycling campaign with nearly 1,000 phones donated so far and some great companies and organisations supporting the campaign. But please keep pushing and donating as it is for such a great cause.'

The initiative is being supported by Gloucester-based BiGDUG, which has supplied the recycling bins, and Blue Sky Signs which created all the signage for the bins.
