BiGDUG thinks bigger for Christmas with giant advent calendar

Storage solution wizards at Gloucester's BiGDUG have unpacked a magical – and massive – idea for Christmas: they've turned their offices in the city into a giant advent calendar!

Two dozen heartwarming designs, penned by local children, were chosen to create the calendar - each revealing the inside story on what Christmas means to them.

Each morning as we approach the big day, one window will be opened to reveal the latest endearing design and message, while matching Christmas cards are also being sold through the Gloucester Rugby Foundation to raise cash for local community projects.

A spokesman said: "24 excited children from Gloucestershire will see their festive-themed artwork showcased in the UK's BiGGEST advent calendar, proudly displaying on the front of a prominent office building in Gloucester."

They added: "The iconic giant calendar, which features a different theme each year, has become a well-loved spectacle for locals, drawing widespread popularity and numerous social media posts celebrating its annual debut each festive season.

Final choice of the content came from a social media competition, hosted by local charity Gloucester Rugby Foundation, which invited children, including those who benefit from the charity, to create artwork showing what Christmas means to them.

Designs began as plain paper or simple stencils, but have now been transformed into 24 meaningful creations which proudly display on the front of the BiGDUG office building on Bristol Road.

The artwork includes Santa's elves, colourful candy canes and festive gingerbread-people, as well as personalised Christmas messages. There are even some imaginative illustrations of local well-known rugby players to add a touch of community pride to the windows.

The resulting Christmas cards, complete with each of the young artist's name and age, help enable the community to support Gloucester Rugby's charity Foundation.

Lucky winner, Effie, (8), said: "Knowing that my drawing is featured on the cards and the advent calendar is really special to me. I felt really excited and right now, I'm feeling overwhelmed and really happy about it and very proud of myself. My Christmas wish is to make my family proud of me and try not to have a frown on Christmas Eve, or Day, or ever, actually and I just want to have a happy Christmas'.
