Asda trials shorter week for managers
By Sarah Wood | 15th January 2024
The owners of Asda are piloting a four-day week at the supermarket.
It hopes the move will mend relationships with store managers, who are leaving the business in large numbers, as reported by Retail Gazette.
Turnover among the supermarket's retail managers rose by nearly 14% in 2022.
Asda said the loss of staff had impacted the stability and capability of store teams, with a knock-on effect on colleagues and customers.
The four-day week trial will also include other flexible working arrangement experiments, including shorter shifts.
Asda's debt interest bill is expected to exceed £400m in the next few months, while the supermarket continues to lose market share to rivals Tesco and Sainsbury's.
