Summer blooms at Snowshill Manor and Garden
By David Wood | 20th June 2023
Summer is the perfect time to visit the Arts and Crafts-style garden at Snowshill Manor, near Broadway in Gloucestershire.
Cared for by a dedicated team of National Trust gardeners, Snowshill is at its colourful best during June and July.
There is something to delight everyone, from colourful displays of flowers, panoramic views of the Vale of Evesham and a wildflower meadow.
June and July bring displays of irises, roses, lupins, and salvias which bring a diversity of colour and scent to the garden rooms. The wildflower meadow is a haven for insects and the warmer weather brings ox-eye daisies, red campions, knapweed, and musk mallow. The overflowing borders, patches of orchids and shady orchards are not to be missed this summer season.
Designed by Charles Wade and Mackay Hugh Baillie Scott, a prominent Arts and Crafts architect, the history of the garden is as interesting as its floral displays.
Wade set out to design a garden which reflected both the theatre and form of the manor. In the style of the Arts and Crafts Movement, the garden is an extension of the house, with a series of outdoor rooms.
Time spent in the garden Snowshill is time like no other, away from the bustle of everyday life. For a quieter visit to the unique and intimate garden, visit on a weekday afternoon and enjoy a seat in the designated silent space.
Snowshill Manor and Garden is open daily. Please visit the Snowshill Manor and Garden website for full details and information.
