Revival of award-winning play coming to Cirencester

The Barn Theatre in Cirencester has announced its next big production of the 2024 season.

The Cotswold venue will be reviving Nick Payne's multi-award-winning play Constellations which will open at the Barn on March 29 and run until May 18.

The award-winning smash hit brings together the unlikeliest of couples in Rowland, a beekeeper and Marianne, a physicist. What follows is a relationship and friendship that embraces the richness of the characters, allowing the audience to share in the comedy and the heartbreak, drawing them into the unflinching reality that the characters eventually face.

Constellations is a high concept romance, a Sliding Doors to the power of 100 - and many other things at once: a drama about time and memory, about death and grief, playful and profound, comic and mournful.

Nick Payne's dazzling play is a beautiful rich exploration into human connections with a plot that ingeniously keeps us guessing until the very end.

The production will be directed by Jessica Daniels who previously worked on Barn favourites - Michael Morpurgo's, The Butterfly Lion and The Mozart Question, for which she was nominated for the Best Director category at the UK Theatre Awards in 2022.

The Olivier Award-winning production first premiered in the UK in 2012, winning the best play category at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards.

Iwan Lewis, CEO & artistic director, The Barn Theatre, said: "It's a credit to the Barn's ever-growing reputation in the theatre space that we are now able to get our hands on such amazing shows.

"Excuse the pun but Nick Payne's masterpiece "Constellations" is out of this world. It is only right with the celestial title that we bring you some star talent.

"We cannot wait to tell you who will be gracing the Barn Theatre stage guaranteeing a performance that will eclipse all expectations. It's great to welcome back Jess Daniels too, following her success with The Butterfly Lion and The Mozart Question. I have no doubt that Jess will do what she does best and give our audience a theatrical treat."
