Remember a loved one by taking part in Walk for Longfield

Longfield Community Hospice will be hosting a spring walk at 10.30am on Sunday, 15 May, and encourages locals to sign up for the perfect family day out.

The 'Walk for Longfield' will offer a choice of 5 or 10K routes, setting off from Longfield's beautiful hospice grounds in Minchinhampton and crossing Minchinhampton and Rodborough Commons.

Having taken in the stunning views, a cuppa and home-baked cakes will await you on your return. This is a great family event, which caters for adults, children and pets - dogs are welcome too!

All walkers will have the chance to hang a message in memory of their loved ones in Longfield's picturesque grounds.

Brian, from Minchinhampton, will be leading a group of volunteers at the Walk for Longfield. Having experienced great loss in his life, Brian uses walking as a way of coping with grief. Longfield supported Brian with bereavement counselling after his beloved wife Jan passed away and some 16 years later cared for Brian's partner Sue in her final days.

Brian said: "Grief is like a tsunami, everything is safe and calm in your world until suddenly it's not. After Sue died, I needed time to heal. I walked the Camino de Santiago: 500 miles from France to Spain. The walk raised over £8,500 for Longfield.

"Today I volunteer with Longfield's 'walk and talk' group. It's a chance for people who are grieving and trying to make sense of their new life to go for a stroll and talk about anything on their mind."

Claire Ellis, from Longfield, who will be organising the event, said: "Do join us on our Walk for Longfield. It's a great way of remembering your loved ones and spending quality time with friends and family in the local countryside."

All money raised will help fund Longfield's vital work providing care for adults in Gloucestershire with life-limiting conditions and support for their families and carers.
