Gloucester Heritage Festival at Llanthony Secunda Priory
By David Wood | 10th September 2021
Llanthony Secunda Priory will be hosting free events and activities in association with the Gloucester Heritage Open Days this weekend (September 11 and 12).
You can explore and learn about Gloucester's rich heritage by stepping inside the restored listed buildings of Llanthony Secunda Priory.
Stunning 14th Century re-enactments will take place by The Plantagenet Medieval Archery and Combat Society, displaying the turbulent period in European History.
With their engaging and unique blend of drama, humour and audience involvement, The Plantagenet Medieval Society will create a memorable day out for the whole family.
Llanthony's marketing and events co-ordinator Charlie Brennan said: 'We are really looking forward to hosting this unique event, and show that historic sites like Llanthony Secunda are not just a window to the past, but inspiring places for the present too."
In 2017 the 'Re-Formation' project started to safeguard all Llanthony's historic structures. Three historic buildings are now used again for events, lectures and private bookings, and the five acres of grounds have been landscaped and are open to the public.
Llanthony Secunda offers opportunities for people to connect with culture, nature and history, encouraging education and wellbeing for all.
Llanthony hosts a number of events throughout the year, from family activities to outdoor theatre and living history events.
The event takes place on Saturday and Sunday, September 11 and 12, from 11am to 3pm.
