Distinguished panel for photography discussion

'The Godfather of Black British photography' will be among those joining a conversation at the Museum of Gloucester on Saturday (December 4).

'Legacies of documentation: Taking positives from a negative...' will explore how photographers capture history, her story, their story or our story? What happens to the image when the moment has passed?

What is it like to be behind the lens? Or to have your image "taken"?

The discussion will be about ownership, representation and storytelling in photography and the power and place of archives.

Inspired by the "Boy with a flag, Wilfred, in Handsworth Park", Vanley Burke, known as the Godfather of Black British photography Vanley Burke, will be joined by artist Rider Shafique and Chair of the Race and Equality Commission Rupert Walters for a discussion chaired by Dr Julia Peck, University of Gloucestershire Academic Subject Leader, Photography.

The event at the Museum in Brunswick Road from 11am-1pm. Admission is free but donations are welcome, pay what you can.
