Cirencester Park to host police dog trials

Cirencester Park has been chosen as the venue for the 60th annual National Police Dog Trials this year - and Countess Bathurst is delighted.

British Transport Police are to host the event at the Park from Wednesday to Saturday, May 11-14.

The Countess tweeted: "It is with the greatest of pleasure I'm able to let you all know the National Police Dog Trials will be taking place here at Cirencester Park. An absolute privilege to be welcoming police dogs and their handlers from all over the UK."

British Transport Police said: "The event will see police dogs and their handlers from across the United Kingdom compete in a series of trials including agility, searching and obedience.

"PD Indie (pictured) will be representing British Transport Police in the competition.

"The event will be open to members of the public on Saturday 14 May. There will be a small donation of £5 per car to attend, which will be donated to the Railway Dogs Benevolent Fund and National Foundation for Retired Service Animals. Local residents who arrive on foot will not be required to make a donation."

Inspector Paul Miles of British Transport Police added: "We are thrilled to be hosting the 60th National Police Dog Trials and incredibly grateful to Lord and Lady Bathurst for accommodating the event in their stunning estate.

"General purpose dogs are an extremely valuable asset in deterring crime and keeping people safe, and all of those competing will be showcasing skill, control and discipline of the highest standard.

"Preparations are well under way for May and we look forward to what will no doubt be a wonderful event!"
