Cheltenham set for two days of Jubilee celebrations

Cheltenham is gearing up for its largest two-day free celebration for the community at Pittville Pump Room and Park to mark The Queen's platinum jubilee.

The Cheltenham Trust, supported by Cheltenham Borough Council, is hosting the event from Thursday, June 2, and Friday, June 3.

The highlight will be the lighting of Cheltenham's official beacon at 9.45pm on the Thursday from the balcony of the pump room, with Cheltenham Mayor Cllr Sandra Holliday, Gloucestershire deputy lieutenant Manny Masih, and Louis Eperjesi, chair of the trust's board of trustees.

The countdown to the beacon lighting starts at 9.15pm and will be led by compere, BBC Points West Gloucestershire reporter and presenter Steve Knibbs. The crowd will be invited to join the massed singing of 'Sweet Caroline', the song chosen by the public as their song for the jubilee.
