Chance to meet real-life huskies

Real-life huskies will appear at The Wilson in Cheltenham in the new year as part of a special event.

The Husky Explorers Day takes place on Wednesday, January 3 and for the first time ever, Arctic Quest are bringing real life huskies into the museum for you to meet!

Come and see the dog breed who helped Antarctic explorers like Wilson and Scott traverse the icy continent and provided companionship on the great Antarctic expeditions.

There are so many stories and facts about these amazing dogs, which are one of the oldest breeds in the world.

Learn all about these fascinating animals, who have uniquely evolved to live and work in the most inhospitable climates. Even better, you'll be hanging out with some real-life canine heroes!

The workshop, run by Arctic Quest's Vickie Pullin, will captivate both adults and children alike as you are transported to life in the polar landscapes.

You will travel to the 1900s, when our early explorers were setting out on a voyage of discovery with their trusty canine companions, to the modern day where the sled dog racing team compete in sprint racing all over the world.

The session will include a chance to meet the husky team up close for the perfect photo opportunity, with a look at the modern sled and racing equipment used by Arctic Quest's racing team.

To finish off your polar experience, curators will lead a hands-on exploration of full replica kit worn by Wilson and Scott when they ventured to the South Pole in 1912, with plenty of opportunities to try the clothes on yourselves.

Sessions start at 10.30am, 11.15am, 12pm, 1.30pm, 2.15pm and 3pm.

Tickets cost £12 and all ticket holders receive 10% off café food and drink all day..

50% of all ticket sales go to Arctic Quest for the dogs' upkeep and care.
