Celebrating 30 years at the Bacon Theatre!

This month the Bacon Theatre in Cheltenham celebrates its 30th year. Three decades of incredible acts, bands, dancers, live performers, and films.

Originally named The New Theatre, the 566-seater venue was opened on 29 October 1991 by the Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire; Colonel Sir Martin Gibb.

The first production to take place in the New Theatre was Twelfth Night by Dean Close scholars in November 1991. Towards the end of 1994, the BBC's Any Questions? hosted by Jonathan Dimbleby, was broadcast from the New Theatre. In 1998 the theatre took on the name of Dean Close's headmaster, Christopher Bacon on the occasion of his retirement.

In more recent years, the theatre's diverse commercial programme of live music, panto, ballet, comedy and film have developed the Bacon Theatre's reputation as one of the top commercial entertainment venues in Cheltenham.

Located in the heart of Dean Close's Senior School grounds, the Bacon Theatre offers audiences a unique and versatile performance space that is fully-equipped and professionally-run.

It boasts a modern auditorium foyer, bar and café in the orangery, and a terrace overlooking the beautiful grounds, and complete with free onsite-parking, which a rarity in Cheltenham!
