Summer opera in the Cotswolds

An intrepid Cotswolds festival is taking on the biggest challenge in all opera this summer.

From 16 June - 6 July, Longborough Festival Opera is staging Wagner's epic four-opera Ring Cycle in its converted chicken shed-come opera theatre.

This three-week extravaganza includes a series of events alongside the main performances, with talks from Sit David Poutney, Sir John Tomlinson, and Simow Callow.

Later in the summer there's also a brand new production of Puccini's much loved opera, La bohème, in celebration of the composer's centenary year.

Martin and Lizzie Graham started promoting opera in the grounds of their home in 1991 as Banks Fee Opera. Longborough Festival Opera has since grown into an established opera company, situated in the heart of the Cotswolds, with an annual season taking place in a purpose-built opera house seating 500.

Longborough Festival Opera remains a family affair: Martin and Lizzie's daughter, the acclaimed opera director Polly Graham, was appointed as artistic director in 2018.

A privately funded opera company, the charity relies on ticket sales and the generosity of members and audience.
